Betta fish food pellets

How many pellets of betta fish food should i feed him a day? don't want to overfeed. I have already fed him 5 pellets today and i dont know what the pet store gave him this morning. (i got there about 15 min after petstore opened.) im scared he will die please help after what ive read.

I would suggest 2 or 3 pellets, depending on the size of them.

He is ok, probably just hungry. Give 2 pellets in the morning and 2 at night. It would be real good for you to get him some freeze dried bloodworms and give him a small amount for one meal every other day, when you can. They love a variety.

Here is something to think about: a bettas stomach is only about the size of his eye, while the pellets seem tiny, they are dried and compressed which means when they get wet they expand feeding too many dry pellets can result in them expanding in the fish and causin major problems. It's a good idea to soak the food first in some tank water before feeding it to your betta.

A simple rule of thumb I use is if your fish looks fat, it probably is. You do have to know what a fish is supposed to look like, even the ones that are deliberately bred to be "round" will show bulges and not smooth contours, if overfed. This does require frequent observation until proper appearance becomes intuitive.
