Measuring only 11.8 x 10.8 x 8.7 inch (30 by 27.5 by 22.3 cm) for the Fluval Spec III Aquarium Kit (10 litre tank) or 17.2 x 10.6 x 6.3 inch (43.5 by 27 by 16 cm) for the Fluval Spec V Aquarium Kit (5 gallon / 19 litre tank) meaning a lack of space is no longer a valid excuse for keeping your Betta fish in a vase. It’s made from etched glass and stylish aluminium trim. Also included is a very discrete three-stage filtration system and LED light. This tank lacks absolutely nothing and the 5 gallon version’s length offers a great viewing angle. I don’t think you will find a better all-in-one package for a Betta fish. If all you want is a simple, clean addition to your desktop, this might be your best bet.
Biorb Flow 15
The BiOrb 15L Flow Aquarium Black or White is another very sleek and stylish bit of kit with an equally nifty filtration system. In fact, to the untrained eye it’s hard to see where the filtration actually takes place. This tank filters itself using the air chamber in the centre which draws water up which in turn creates a slow flow through the ceramic filter media that sits underneath those shiny, chic pebbles. 900 grams of this filter media is supplied with the Biorb Flow 15L as well as the air pump, air stone, filter cartridge and light. It looks really good when its working and measuring just 12 x 8 x 12.5 inches (32 by 31 by 21 cm) this will fit nicely wherever you want it to go. The spherical biOrb 4-Gallon tank model could be used for a Betta fish but fitting a heater inside a spherical tank will be tricky; this new Flow model is much better.Superfish Wave 15
For our UK readers (I haven’t seen this available in the US) another very stylish tank that would be perfect for a desktop aquarium – the Superfish Wave 15 Aquarium. It has a wonderful folding lid that reveals not only an in-built LED light but also a concealed filter chamber. Also supplied is a filter, an acrylic tank cover and a nifty touch control button for the LED lighting. There is a white and blue light which can be dimmed, an unusual feature, but cool all the same. Equally this tank is a very suitable choice for a betta fish and has a slightly more funky design that the other tanks discussed here: it’s like the chunky-framed glasses for the fish tank world.
A look around a Superfish Wave 15 fish tank
All three of these tanks are really stylish alternatives to a simple vase and will keep your Betta fish in much greater health than a small and unfiltered container. There are many nano tanks available such as the three reviewed above that can provide style and interest to your desktop or home. I hope you have enjoyed reading this article by Steven caller from Aquarist Magazine.
